Location
The run will start and end at the Sports facilities / Swimming pool in Vík.
Runners are requested to be on site at least 30 minutes before the start. The group of runners will walk/jog together down to the Black Sand beach (Víkurfjara) where the race will start. Expect a 5-10 minute walk.
The sports hall facilities will be open for participants, however, the facilities are small so cues are to be expected.
Route and aid stations
The route will be well marked and there will be manned checkpoints along the route. There will be two aid stations in the longer run (4.5km and 13km) and one in the shorter run (4.5km). Each aid station will be equipped with water, sports drinks, bananas and chocolates. Please make sure to bring your own glass or bottles. No cups will be provided at the aid stations.
Cut-offs
There will be a cut-off time in the 21km run. No cut-offs are for the 10km run.
At Mýrdalshlaup Trail Run, we want everyone to finish their race. However, we will be implementing cut-offs to ensure the safety of our competitors and crew. To meet the time limit, runners must have left drinking station no. 2 (approx. 13 km and 620 m cumulative ascent from start) after 2 hours and 30 minutes from start. If a runner does not reach that time limit, he/she is considered to have finished the race and will be offered a ride down to Vík. This policy applies to all participants and cannot be negotiated with local crew members.
Organizers
One family, four siblings, spouses and parents prepare and organize the Mýrdalshlaup Trail Run on a voluntary basis. We are very fond of Vík í Mýrdal and want to welcome visitors and introduce them to the unique nature of the area.
We emphasize good organization, safety, a friendly approach and, most importantly, a unique running experience.
The Mýrdalshlaup Trail Run is a non-profit organization. All income goes into strengthening the safety of the runners and to improve the runners experience.
